Why We Switched to a Charcoal and Wood Grill!
Most stories will make propane and charcoal/wood grilling a great debate. It really wasn’t a debate for us, it was more of a wondrous accident. You see, three years ago we started camping with our family. We bought an old camper and remodeled it. Although our little traveling house has all the amenities to live a posh camping lifestyle, we chose to use the facilities offered at the campground and cook on an open fire. Above all, we wanted to sleep comfortably but do everything else more traditional and rustic! Okay, I know what you are thinking, what does this have to do with cooking with charcoal and wood!
Camping is were cooking on charcoal and wood comes in. To our surprise, we created one of many delicious dinners cooking over the campfire. Campfire cooking gave us a dinner we couldn’t duplicate in our kitchen or on our often used propane grill. Therefore, grilling with charcoal and wood recreated our food with a superb bonus, a deliciously smokey flavor that made our taste buds do a happy dance with each bite! 😉
By and large, my husband and I feel that food should be enjoyed and it should make your taste buds explode! In addition, we always take pride in what we cook for our friends and family, we want them to leave saying “that was a good meal”! Furthermore, we often leave many restaurants disappointed, unfortunately now a days it seems most places just don’t take pride in what they cook!
In fact, my Dad, now is in his 80’s, refused to use a propane grill. He loved to slow cook his food, especially ribs on the Good Ole’ charcoal grill. As a matter of fact, we couldn’t wait for the food to get done. To this day, my Dad’s ribs are without a doubt melt in your mouth delicious!
For us, deciding to switch wasn’t the debate that others make it out be, but rather a preference. More so, it was necessary to meet our food expectations. Furthermore, it brought back memories of how our food tasted, as kids, before propane became popular.
In Summary, we switched to charcoal and wood because it made sense to us.
- First, we love the flavor it gives our food.
- Second, it meets our expectations.
- And finally, cooking with charcoal and wood brought back some great memories and allows us to cook in a fashion that is reminiscent of a past time.
